Greetings Fellow Motorheadbangers!!

So many new things to report this week. First, the wesite. I managed to post a lot of interesting things this week including the first 10 albums of the Motorhead discography. More will come in the next week or so. In addition, tour dates have been posted for North America (including lots of dates in Canada) and Europe. More as I get them. I have also updated the new album page on the website to include details on "We Are Motorhead". The page also includes some samples of three of the tracks from the album. I am curious to hear your feedback on these tidbits.

Tour Date! Get you Tour Date!

TWISTED SISTER will get the tribute treatment from hard rock notables including, tentatively, SEVENDUST, TYPE O NEGATIVE, ANTHRAX, SLIPKNOT, LIT, KITTIE, and MOTORHEAD, who've already recorded "Shoot 'Em Down."
Twisted Sister will also participate, but covering a different band, AC/DC: "Sin City" is the designated track. Koch Records will issue the CD in the fall or early winter.

Ace:

Love your newsletter! Accidentally had VH1 on a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't believe the gall of those motherfuckers, and the inductees they chose for the so-called "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame": Earth, Wind and Fire (what?!?!? That's not rock, it's disco-soul, or at best funk. And as long as they're going to put a funk band in there, why not Parliament. Anyway, I digress.....), James Taylor (pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! He's an oat bran granola folk singer who makes Phil Collins sound like Slayer), Eric Clapton (for the THIRD time?!?!? Why do I suspect collusion going on here?), Bonnie Raitt (like Clapton, she's one of these self-annointed "keepers of the faith" for blues; Except, like Clapton, she's transmogrified the blues into a sanitized, white-bread version of blues. Again, Parliament's got more to do with keeping that tradition alive, and George Thorogood [not in RR Hall of Fame] is one of the few white men who give blues the dirty sound it so deserves) and - worst of all - The Lovin' Spoonful (the last thing John Sebastian did of any importance was the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme song in 1975!!!) Even worse than that was when this Lovin' Spoonful geezer band (parenthetically, it really makes my sides split when some balding, greying, spare-tire around the middle, burn-out, geriatric type begins a speech with "as a CHILD of the 1960s..........." The only thing these elderly hippies have in common with children is that they wear diapers) tries singing "Do You Believe in Magic?" Out of tune, out of step, John Sebastian barely squeaking out the words, it was embarrassing! I was watching these old farts pretend they were still a rock band and it put the "ick" in pathetic.

Later on, I found out the following bands aren't even in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, despite being around forever:

* Black Sabbath (this is the biggest travesty: James Taylor in there, but not Sabbath? Beyond believability!)
* Kiss
* Lemmy/Motorhead
* Judas Priest
* Rush
* Lynyrd Skynyrd
* Alice Cooper

I could go on and on, but I think all of you get the point. I certainly got the point when I clicked onto their website and found who they chose for their wallpaper image: Bruce Springsteen! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is run by a coterie of lame-ass, white-bread, anti-metal sophisticates who are embarrassed by the sort REAL rock-and-roll that people like Lemmy and Ozzy represent: Heavy Metal! Who runs the so-called "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame"?
As best as I can gather:

* Eric Clapton (hasn't ROCKED for over 25 years; highly over-rated - hasn't it occurred to anyone that the Yardbirds got IMMEASURABLY better when he left, and then under Jimmy Page they finally flourished as Led Zeppelin? Hasn't it occurred to anyone that Clapton only surfaced to make any new recordings when he exploited his son's falling out of a window to make a top-10 hit out of it? BTW, kid fell out of window due to the narcissistic Clapton's negligence, but that's another story.....)

* Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Kris Kristofferson, Elton John, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, James Taylor, Grateful Dead, John "hasn't rocked since he was called Cougar" Mellencamp, k.d. lang, Melissa Etheridge, Fleetwood Mac, et al. (all of you: NONE of you are rockers, except Neil Young solo! You are all hangers-on! As for you fuckers in your fifties looking like octogenarians: Get a hair transplant, hippie!)

Needless to say, where am I going with this? It is clear that the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame has outlived its original mandate, and has turned into a select clique of back-patters, a bunch of second-rate nobodies posing as real rockers! I visited Rush's website and saw a petition to get Rush into the hall of fame; That was disheartening. Why should first-rate bands beg to be included with second and third-raters? Gene Simmons of Kiss had a better attitude: If invited, they'll be members, but aren't courting anyone's vote. Nonetheless, what we need is a hall of fame devoted to real rock-and-roll, a Heavy Metal Hall of Fame.

Is there such a thing? If so, let's promote it better. If not, let's go to Cleveland like Patton into Berlin and lay siege to that bunch of poseurs posing as rockers.

Ace,

I got some info the possible location of the Motorhead gig in May. I was at the Dio show at the House of Blues March 29th and the soundman annonunced that Motorhead would be playing there in May. As of yet, I still don't see the show on the schedule. The last time they played there '96; it was packed. Take it from me, this place has the best sound and sightlines of any clubs in L.A. I also heard Fu Manchu announce that they would be opening for Motorhead on the upcoming U.S. tour. That's a huge improvement over the bands that opened for them last year. I hope all this pans out and I hope to meet you there.

Motorhead fan since '81

Richard Gutierrez

P.S. I got to meet Lemmy at the Nashville Pussy show a couple of weeks back and they played some of the new album over they sound system. Some different sounding songs, but still very much Motorhead.

**Ace: The deal with HOB did not work out for LA... the show is at the Palace.

That's right, folks! It's the IFLSB again! We report any and all motorhead references no matter how small or possibly not motorhead references they may be.
Well, I just returned from a screening of "High Fidelity" (pretty good, if a little long), and I have something minor to report!
The movie takes place largely in a record shop. All throughout it, Motorhead albums are given high visibilty. Usually the classic first album, but Ace of Spades appears as well.
In other news, I saw a girl on the streets of Boston wearing an old MH t-shirt as well. Then I saw a MH album in a record store in Cambridge. Oh, too minor? Well, the first one's sorta appropos, i guess.
Now I shall melt again into the shadows, ready to strike out at the mereest whiff of anything MHish.

I was just wondering...has anyone ever suggested that Motorhead authorize a likeness of their emblem to a company that produces gaming miniatures? Reaper miniuatures or Games Workshop would do an excellent job of casting a "life-like" figure for us geeks to use in our games!

Also, the new cover is amazing! Can't wait for the cd.

Oh, and one more thing...to listen to the backwards stuff...just spin the record backwards!!! I guess I'm just old fashioned, but vinyl sounds better anyway!

In footage from the Vietnam War, I've seen soldiers leaving "Death Cards" at the scene of a battle... a playing card (usually the ace of spades) with the units' logo on it, as a way of bragging to the enemy. It was pretty grim, they went around stuffing them into the mouths of the dead bodies. I believe they were shown being used in "Apocalypse Now".
A cool item for a war memorabilia collection, though I really hate having to explain to numbskulls that just because Lemmy collects it doesn't mean he advocates it. (I think I recall Lemmy saying in an old issue of Bass Player Magazine "Does owning a cowboy hat mean you advocate the slaughter of native americans?")
Wish I could find the article and transcribe it, it really ticked off the readership of Bass Player to see Lemmy in there alongside all the usual fretless-jazz-snobs.
No shocking revelations in the article though... Lemmy was a gracious interviewee, said that he considered himself a rhythm guitar player and not a bass player, and didn't plan on ever owning a 6-string bass ("Any higher and I'd sound like a piano, any lower and I'd shit myself!")

Subject: OS: Next Motorhead Tribute

Just an idea, but why not try one of the old Sam Gopal songs for the next Motorhead tribute? Surely there's a band out there that can metalize and update a song like "You're Alone Now" or "Cold Embrace" and give them new life in the Motorhead canon...

I know, there are not Motorhead songs, but as far as I'm concerned, Lemmy=Motorhead and he had the large part in writing those songs. I enjoy listening to them and wondering how they would sound if Lemmy would give them the treatment that he gave to "Blue Suede Shoes" a few years back.

A similar idea went though my head when listening to the Dio tribute, and wondering what it'd be like to take one of his old Redcaps or Prophets songs, and totally metalize it. I'm sure Ronnie won't dredge up any of that stuff and redo it, but why not one of the up-and-coming bands that might find its way on a tribute album?

Not sure how the artists being honored would feel about dragging up their early work, but it'd be nice to at least acknowledge that part of the history.

Heads Up! Fellow Motorheadbangers! I have found another movie where a motorhead record or shirt has appeared in a movie. It's in "HIgh Fidelity" with John Cusack. The record appears to be the self titled record with the Clarke Taylor Kilminster lineup. That's good news to see motorhead on the big screen in any form.
Another small anecdote concerning "High Fidelity" if you look closely, you will see a shot of an MC5 album--one of Lemmy's favorite bands. More cool trivia!

By dedicating your time and efforts into what must surely be a labor of love you have given all of us, one of, if not the best single source of information on the greatest band in the world Motorhead. For all of those people who felt the need and the right for whatever reason to write up Ace and give him grief i just have to say that you people are so obviously not true fans because if you were then in the first place you would not be such whiney little fucksticks, and also you would not be bothering a man who gives us so much and asks so little in return ( if anything at all ). Well, thanx all...oh, BTW, does anyone know where I can find some bass tab, as I am learning the bass guitar, and I'd like to get hold of some more Motorhead stuff. I can play simple stuff like 'I Don't Believe A Word' and 'The Chase Is Better Than The Catch', but I'd like to try something a little harder. Something not quite as hard as the 'Ace Of Spades', about the level of Metallica's 'My Friend Of Misery'.

Cheers All!!

I was just thinking about something for the website. What about introducing a chat forum so that we can all log in every now and again and chin - wag to each other??

Hi, Ace - People like Lunay need to get a fuckin' life!!! You are doing a GREAT job with O.S. and the vast majority of people who receive it are probably enjoying it immensely, as I am. I used to publish a monthly rock fan newsletter (for "Yes" - but that was years ago, and I rarely listen to such "mellow" music these days) - and I can tell you, it was a LOT OF WORK! The fact that you are sending us O.S. as often as you do is a miracle, since you are doing it for free and you actually have a real job and a life, as well! I can't believe these fuckin' whiners. Geez. Anyway, keep up the good work, Ace. We love you.

**Ace: Yes is an AWESOME band!

Dear Ace,

Thanks a billion for putting up the three song samplers on the web site! I appreciate your hard work. Well done, and fast like the band itself :-).
I could not believe my ears! "See me Burning" is perhaps the fastest, meanest track that the lads have EVER recorded. Mikkey Dee goes ape@#$%. They definitely deliver the knockout punch on the track. And "God Save The Queen" is perhaps one of the best cover tunes ever to be recorded by ANY artist. Only Motorhead could have pulled this one off. Wow! Good and lean. I am like a kid on Xmas eve waiting for that CD to arrive May 16th. This would never have happened without your diligent efforts. Thanks again for creating a page for the greatest band in the world.

Dave "Motorhawk" Hultgren

**Ace: You are very welcome.

Hi ACE,
I noticed that, as of yet, there is no Toronto gig this time around. Do you know if this is a logistics thing, or something to do with promoters in this area? I appreciate the work you have put into the site. I know it's very time consuming, and you've done a first class job. The OS e-mail always makes my day!

**Ace: It is the promoters... but don't worry, I expect Toronto would be on the list when they do the east coast.
