Greetings Fellow Motorheadbangers!!
Oh my, oh my. You know, for he most part, doing the Overnight Sensation mailing list
is truly a labor of love. It give me great pleasure to be able to bring together
Motorhead fans from across the globe and give them a forum to interact. It takes a
great deal of time to keep this up, as well as the official Motorhead website. But,
really, I don't mind. They are an awesome band and I truly enjoy the work.
What I don't enjoy is the mundane, trivial task of maintaining the actual list for
Overnight Sensation. This takes between 2-3 hours a week of mindless, boring work.
The kind of work that computers were invented to alleviate from mankind in the first
place. So, I finally decided to check out the alternatives out there for a list
service and settled on Listbot.
Listbot had served me well for the list I maintain for the Nuclear Blast USA website (if you haven't seen the website, take
a look at http://www.nuclearblast-usa.com, I am quite proud of it) and so I
though it would be worthwhile to assign the greatest list in the world to this service. But, I made a small error in
one of the settings when I first set up the list and it caused every email that someone sent as a reply to the OS post to
be re-broadcast to the entire list. I have a day job and do not check my email during the day, so this error was not
evident to me until I got home in the afternoon to be greeted by 650 emails... I fixed the problem and it should not happen
again.
A lot of people got very upset about the influx of emails they received as a result of my
little error. In fact we lost over 200 subscribers on that day. What also
happened, which I did not anticipate, is that there are several of the email addresses on
the list that had not been getting their issues of OS because their server of their
mailbox automatically refused emails from any sender with a reply address from
bigfoot.com. I utilize the excellent services there (if you don't know what they
offer, check out http://www.bigfoot.com and tell 'em
I sent ya) but so do a lot of spam artists... hence the ban that a lot of sites have on
these emails. The list bot is sending the emails from an address that is NOT from
bigfoot, so suddenly several of these people got their first taste of OS... some of them
were pissed off. Oh well...
Bottom line is this.: the list bot service is already helping me save a lot of time and energy in getting out OS.
It lets me concentrate on the really cool part of all this, actually assembling the OS letter, and leaves the mundane BS to
the computers. So, PLEASE, if for whatever reason you decide to leave out little family (i.e. unsubscribe), please
just send an email to overnightsensation-unsubscribe@listbot.com.
Just sending an email to this address from the email address that you subscribe to OS to will take you off. From
this point forward I will NOT accept unsubscribes that are just mailed to me. To get off of the list, you will have
to send an email to overnightsensation-unsubscribe@listbot.com.
These instructions will be repeated in every issue of OS.
Anyway, I do want to thank you all for your support. It was wonderful to get over
100 emails after the fact showing support for OS and everything that I do here. I
want all of you that wrote and all of you that support this project to know that I really
appreciate it and all of you. This is, without a doubt, one of the coolest projects
that I have ever been priviledged to participate in and I thank you.
Now, that having been said, onto the loudest band in the world, MOTORHEAD. Lemmy is still mastering the new album. He
expected to be finished this past week, but I did not get an update before sending out this letter. I do know that there
is a tour shaping up for late May and most of June that will have the boys storming across the US and Canada. I do not
know any dates yet but I will post them as soon as I get them on the website.
Also, there is a special event being planned for England in April. Again, I did not
get an update before sending this email, so I do not know the status of it. But, it
is, after all, the 25th Anniversary of Motorhead... don't families usually get together
and celebrate milestones like that... you know... ALL of the family?
Also, as part of my new job, I will be moving to Los Angeles in May. I hope that
some of you LA based bangers will make yourselves known to me. :-)
Until next time....

Why should anyone care if every dweeb in the world loved Motorhead as much as we do?
It won't change the fact that they are the greatest band in history. The more
the merrier I say. Just my two cents worth. Peace.

Peter,
The easiest way I can suggest to find out what it says is to record the song
from your CD onto a blank cassette and then play the cassette upside down on a four-track
recorder. I haven't done it, so I don't know what it says, but a musician buddy of
mine says that it'll work fine. Just make sure there's nothing recorded on the other
side of the cassette or it'll bleed both songs together. Good luck. Keep us
apprised of your results.

Ace,
Thanks for the latest O/S.
You are doing a great job in keeping this going. I dread to think how much hassle this is
causing you.
You have terrific support in the UK for your work. I wish you every success in your new
job - the magazine looks great and I'll be subscribing immediately.
Let us know if you ever make it over to the UK - a lot of people here owe you a beer or 2!
Keep up the good work!

Alright everyone??
You all seemed pretty interested in Phill's son's band. I was reading this months Metal Hammer (great mag, huh??) and to my
amazmement they had a Phyco Squad demo tape in their demo section. They rated it 9/10 (!!) and they said that "it sounds like
Machine Head, Sepultura and Amen". Phyco Squad also did a cover of 1916 and they said "thei 1916 Motorhead cover is excellent".
I will give you the contact address and how much it costs n the list if you like. I thaught it would be a nice thing to have
in all our collection(s), and Phil would be very pleased to hear about it.
Cheers, keep the good work up, I willl try not to bother you anymore!!!

P.s. Try Jungle.com for MOTRHEAD albums, there great for my bands such as the Hellacopters

This is to answer the question of whether there is a Hawkwind-version of "MotTrhead"
on CD.
There is a double CD Hawkwind release called "The Ambient Anarchists" that
includes this track with Lemmy doing the vocals.

Hey MHB's,
Isn't this new list supposed to work just exactly like it is, with every email going immediately to every member? I
am on 4 other lists and they work like that. That is the point of them, I think. I have been wanting OS to be like that for
a while. That way you can discuss subjects more fully and be more involved in the list. I love the "old way" also but hate
waiting so long between issues. Is there not a digest form available for those who don't want to be buried with emails?
If not, there should be, such as there is on netspace.org lists. But don't everybody just bail at the drop of a hat.
God, just how busy can you possibly be??? Pretty busy, I guess! Everyone who's staying, let's get into some good threads
soon with so much 'Head activity on the horizon!

Hello all,
Like most of you, I prefer the digest version of the list. I guess Ace wants to save time by not having to compile the digest
once a week (am I right?).
Those of you who want to unsubscribe, do it the automatic way, please. Don't send Ace E-mails asking him to unsubscribe you...
Another way is to open another E-mail account and subscribe to the list from there. You can check that account once in a while.
That way, it would be almost the same as a digest. Try Hotmail, Yahoo, XOOM, or whatever.
Alain Poncelet asked about Hawkwind albums with Lemmy. Well, here is a list of major releases, without all crappy compilations
etc:
Doremi Fasol Latido - 1972
Space Ritual Alive - 1973
Hall Of The Mountain Grill - 1974
Warrior On The Edge Of Time - 1975
All these albums are classic, especially Space Ritual Alive. And available on CD.
Hawkwind's biggest hit, Silver Machine (with Lemmy on vocals), is not featured on any of these albums, because it was released
as a single only in 1972. See the compilation below, though.
Lemmy also appeared on a bunch of singles, too many for me to mention here. Alain asked about the single featuring the first
version of the song Motorhead. It was released as the B-side of the Kings Of Speed single in 1975. Hawkwind released another
version of Motorhead as a single (7 and 12 inch) in 1978 (not sure) with vocals by Dave Brock (instead of Lemmy) and with
keyboards instead of violin, a pretty cool version too. I believe the original version of Motorhead, as well as Silver Machine,
is available on the awseome compilation (recommended for beginners) Stasis - The UA Years.
It available on CD as well.
Cheers,
Ola

Subject: How to work Listbot
Hi Folks,
I suspect that there is some misunderstanding about how mailing lists work. If you send a mail to the list address, it gets
sent to everyone on the list ... straight away. As for the traffic levels, we have had 43 mails to date of which 5 were something
other than UNSUBSCRIBE and 1 of those was an advert for Peru (??!). I suspect that when everyone calms down a bit the traffic
levels will drop quite considerably.
Anyways, I have had a look around on listbot and found the following:
1 - Go to the web site at http://www.listbot.com/
2 - Press the button at the top marked "Member Login"
3 - Press the link "Lost yours" by the Password button.
4 - Enter the email address you subscribe to the list with and press
Submit.
The web server will then send you your password.
5 - Go back the page in item 2) above and log in.
You will then be able to alter all sorts of stuff about yourself.
But you can't switch to digest mode.
Ace? You might like to consider switching to another list service that does provide this. I use http://www.onelist.com
for a number of the lists that I run, this allows members to chose from a number of different delivery modes, including digest.
For myself, I prefer this delivery mode and have in fact badgered Ace offline a number of times to add an undigested variant
to the subscription.
Cheers all

re hawkwind albums with lemmy.I have three one is "bring me the head of yuri gagarin"1973 which has "silver machine" on it
their "hit" single!, another is a double live album called "flying is trying is dying"also 1973, the cover of which is a huge
psychedelic fold out thingo which shows ,amongst other things, a picture of lemmy with the rest of band- rickenbacker
in hand of course- and with that famous lemmy stance happening. The other is called "hall of the mountain grill" 1974 and
features a song called "lost johnny" written by lemmy. there may be others but that is all i found. Hope it helps- check it
out though as the stuff is very interesting. danny ps i also picked up a "best of" hawkwind album which had the song "motorhead"
on it but it was sung by dave brock. i have not been able to get hold of a version on which lemmy is playing, if anyone knows
of one?

Hi Ace,
Thanks for the great work in keeping us informed what Lemmy and the gang are up to. I have been a Motorhead fan since Overkill
came out in the late 70's (showing my age (these days CD).
The other day I was watching some live clips of the Big Day Out in Sydney and a band called Shihad was playing. Their music
wasn't bad but the drummer had a Motorhead T-shirt which made me stand and listen (how easy it is to get my attention The
other day I was watching some sport and it was acrobatic skiing (I think from Spain?) and the American who won was skiing

Hey Ace!
Just a word about the new way of the list, which didn¦t last that long: I think the direct way via hotbot.com or isfa.com
or whatever is much better than the weekly issue because it offers better opportunitys to discuss things, you needn¦t wait
days for an answear etc., it¦s much straighter, I really like it that way. Of course it¦s annoying if people get tons of mails
because some can¦t figure out how to unsubscribe, what is described in every mail. I can understand that this makes 'em leave
because they had hundreds of mails by the list. But if you have a closer look, there¦s not even a dozen of mails which were
not off topic. For my point of view, I¦d say: Give it a chance! I think it¦ll work out fine!
so long & cheers!

IMHO, you're right!
This listbot-version-OS is sure more "-rubbish-in-your-mailbox-" but - you can filter out what you don't want!
This "direct-OS" is pretty good, I think' its a lot better handling! I can compare it with old-fashioned-Fido-Net Mail-System
which I learned to
love a few thousand years ago. Works fine. Like you said, the reader is much more involved in the list!
Maybe, someone could "compile" all essentials from the "forum" to a weekly list for those who have a "too small E-Mail-Box"
or who couldn't handle Mail-Filters
:-)

I was wrong about the original Hawkwind version of Motorhead being featured on the Stasis - The UA Years compilation. Silver
Machine is on it, but not Motorhead. However, Motorhead is available as a bonus track on the Griffin CD release of the Warrior
