Motorheadbangers Everywhere!!

I got a little behind on a lot of the work that I am doing (net-wise) last week and didn't get to send out a new issue of OS. Apologies.... but, this week you get a bonus because I am sending you the Second Anniversary Special Edition!!! I can't believe that it has actually been two years already. I remember when I got the idea for this list... and now two years later it still lives and breathes... thanks to all of you. Over the past two years I have made many friends through this list... you make it all worthwhile.

* You asked for it and you've got it. OVERNIGHT SENSATION MAILING LIST T-SHIRTS!! After months of planning and coordinating, I am happy to announce that I am taking pre-orders for the OS t-shirts. I have created a special webpage on the official site just for this purpose. It has all the instructions for ordering. It is located at: http://www.imotorhead.com/tshirt.htm

This page is exclusive to Overnight Sensation members and this shirt is only for us. It is fully endorsed by the band!! All the details you need are on the link above. I am personally very excited about this. There are many cool things to come!!! The first orders are rolling in... thanks one and all for your support!

* When I went out on the road with Motorhead, one afternoon Phil and I sat down before a show and did a formal interview. That interview is available now in Real Audio format at:
http://www.blastmagazine.com

* TOUR DATES! Tour dates... get your tour dates here. As always, they could change at any minute.

Another great gig, as usual! Last saturday 12.06.99 Motorhead played in Portugal, and it was awesome, after seeing a show like that you havent the words to describe the intensity and power force that only 3 guys could do on a stage, and they are only 3! Hopefully will not past another 10 years to see Motorhead again in Portugal, as Mr. Kilmister promise that they will be here next year. All i can say to all of the subscribers, its that if you can go see them, they deserve it, and another great thing as older they go it seems that better they play. LONG LIVE TO MOTORHEAD!!!

Someone else can probably answer these questions more precisely-- I'm only so much of a gearhead! But: Lemmy uses two Marshall SuperBass 100w amplifiers, running into two 1x15" speaker cabinets and two 4x12" speaker cabinets. I have in the past read this amplification equipment is basically what he had with Hawkwind, which may be true, but one suspects a certain amount of repair and alteration and replacement *at least* has taken place over the intervening decades. He seems to run the lead from the bass into one of the amps, and then runs the output from that amp into the input for the second.

When he says he doesn't use "distortion" he means he doesn't use extra distortion effects, just overdrives the amplifiers' valves (which is the sound most distortion effects are trying to duplicate).

As for his use of Rickenbackers, he basically inherited one it from Hawkwind's previous bass player (Dave Anderson). I've heard several slightly different stories about it, but the basic idea is he came along to play bass, never having done it before, and used what there was to hand. He stuck with them because Ricks are excellent :) I've also read he thought they had a cool shape, comparing them to the "tailfins" on American cars of the '50s. Not surprisingly, Lemmy has generally replaced the pick-ups on his Ricks (Ric pickups have historically gotten much abuse), I think he used a Bartolini pickup at one point at least. Apparently he finds the Ric pickups on the new Lemmy signature model satisfactory at last.

Lemmy plays a lot more chords with Motorhead than he did with Hawkwind, it seems to me--no surprise since there's a lot more space to fill in Motorhead's sound. I've yet to figure out what kind of chord shapes he uses (admittedly, I haven't tried very hard), as I have so far found playing power chords on the bass very awkward, and it's probably the result of my simply trying to transfer guitar fingerings across. Anyone has some good suggestions for bass power chord shapes, I'd be glad to hear 'em! Probably something obvious which I'm just blinded to ...

Never seen a Lemmy signature model in person yet. I'd like to give one a spin, but I would never abandon my beloved '76 4001 for anything else! Any other Ric-owners out there Mine has some funky rewiring and pickup replacement, some
of which was in place when I bought it (I was a bit on the young side in the year it was made ;) and some of which I've done since. Number on the jack-plate is 2427 :)

Cheers,
Carl

Just thought I'd reply to a question asked in last news letter. Lemmy uses Marshall amps not sure what series amp he uses but rom a video i have (havent ever seen them live) he uses several 4 by 15 inche quad boxes. Dont know why he started using a rickenbacker but it might be because they are one of the best basses around especially if you want that heavy fat sound that just screams motorhead (Gibson basses are also good for this sound). In an article I read i a guitar mag a while ago they interviewd Lemmy and he said about how the people at marshall sent him a brand new transistor amp asking him to use and indorse it. Lemmy sent it back saying it was shit compared to his old valve amps. From what I have read Lemmy doesnt use effects on his bass, I believe him, it's not hard to overdrive a bass if you have that much amplification, the trouble is finding somewhere that you can play that loud without the neighbours coming over to kill you. Hope this answered the question. Bye for now (enjoy the shows)

Hey Everybody, I just picked up the cd On Parole, and I think it's awesome. It's really cool to hear Lemmy sing in a normal voice. Almost every song I can recognize the singer as being Lemmy, whith the exception of two: Vibrator and Fools. The voice sounds nothing at all like Lemmy, while on others like Iron Horse/born to lose and Lost Johnny I can recognize the voice and inflection as being Lemmy's. What's the deal here,Is it Larry Wallis singing, even though it says in the liner notes that Lemmy did all the singing? someone Let me know, Laters Kelly

I saw that. FKing gorgeous, isn't it? As an aspiring bassist myself I have decided to mortgage my life and buy one. I had a go on one in a music store in London, and it's probably the best bass I've ever played. Power chords chime sweet and clean, and playing it as a "normal" bass is equally astounding. My advice: Rob a bank and use the proceeds to buy one.

>Ahh I figured out a forth Question, Why are the frames on Oliver Cornfield's fan club site so big. I love the site, but I hate the >frames on the site, the one on the left is so big, especially compared with other sites. Is that just the way the Virgin Freespace is?

No, it's all my fault. Glad you like the site, anyway. The reason the frames were originally formed in that configuration is that the site started out as another site entirely. The original site was designed as a showcase for the dynamic HTML used in the blue window. I was asked to provide a demo of dynamic whilst working for a web design company about three years ago. I chose to fill in the rest of the site with Motorstuff, and the site grew from there.

Whilst I had the odd complaint about the frames, these were mostly from either non-IE users or those using less than 800X600 resolution or above on their desktop. As 800X600 is the internet standard I figured I'd design the site for that, and as for the browser, I see no excuse for using anything other than IE4+. Netscape has always been so limited and volatile (and no doubt I'll get lots of hate mail for this) and as the point of the site was to show off the HTML in the blue window, I couldn't design it for anything else.... The design of the site won me a fair amount of praise so I see no reason to change.

I realise that certain pages might be too long for the right hand frame but I haven't got the energy to revamp it. Sorry!

Oliver

**Editor: No need to apologize Oliver... your site ROCKS!!!

In 1979 Motorhead has their Bomber Tour through England. Now, I'm searching for the data of the concert at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. I would be glad to get a helpfull information from you.
Many thanks

ACE! Greetings from upstate NY. This is Jimmy Crackcorn, Motorheadfreak since I first set the needle down on "Overkill" back in '79. Still loving every minute of every release and seeing as many Motorshows as possible 20 yrs later! I want to ask you, and all fans reading this, to now join me in raising your favorite quality beverage and toasting Motorhead on the successful completion of another fine North American Tour. Many thanks to the band - Lemmy, Phil and Mikkey - for putting out so much power, energy and precision on stage! Also, to the road crew for all the sweat and offstage efforts that made the shows happen! The two shows I saw (Montreal & Poughkeepsie, NY) were both BURNERS! Awesome displays of excellence! Imagine walking into the club only to see Lem casually shooting pool and chatting with the fans, signing autographs and posing for photos between shots. Just great! No Rock Star Ego's on display at all. All three took much time after the shows to meet the fans, too. Thanks again, guys! This time the catch was definitely better than the chase.

Hi, I attended the Sweden rock festival in Karlshamn on the 11th of June. Motrhead played directly after Manowar played their set and now I can inform you that Motorhead is definitly louder! The Motrhead show was great (as always) and they got good reviews in the papers too. When Motrhead played killed by death, John Norum, former guitarr player in the now defunct Swedish band Europe joined the band on stage. Although I would have liked to hear some more old classics and less newer songs I must say that this gig really kicked some seriously ass!! Here is the set list from what I can remember (not in the excact order): Bomber (one of my absolute favourites) No class Im so bad Over your shoulder Metropolis Nothing up my sleeve (I think its time to rest this song now) Broken Take the blame Born to raise hell Civil war Orgasmatron (Another live favourite of mine together with Bomber) Sacrifice Iron fist Going to Brazil (its time to rest this one too in my opinion) Killed by death Ace of spades Overkill Cant remember if they played Overnight sensation or not. Best regards, Kristoffer, motrheadbanger no 1268

I have listened to Motorhead since I was about 14 years old. How is it possible that the band still kicks ass? I was floored to see such tremendous output of music at the show from only 3 musicians!! When I was 16 I saw the Scorpions, they have aged a bit since them, but Motorhead hasn't. What is the secret?

Thank you very much about getting those T-shirts for us Motvrhead fans. Must been a hard job, we really aprociate that.
But, unfortunately, the front picture is hmm... disappointing In fact it is quite stupid. The back logo "Born to lose, live to win" is exactly right but the front is like from something cheap TV-cartoon for kids. I am sorry, but that is the fact.
But anyway, I am eagerly waiting to see the best band in the world playing live June 25th in Nummirock, Finland.

When people findout that I like Motorhead, Megadeth, etc, they automatically make some heavy assumptions. But, I think it all is part and parcel of the experience. We know something that they don't... or can't. Take solice in that....
