Hello All...

I received some very sad news this week from my friends over at Kiss Asylum. Here is the news bit that they posted on their website...

Wendy O. Williams Found Dead

Wendy O. Williams, lead singer of The Plasmatics, died Monday of a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. She was only 48. Her solo album WOW, released in 1984, was produced by Gene Simmons and featured him on bass for some songs, as well as guest appearances by Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Eric Carr. An earlier version of "Thief in the Night" was also included in this album.

My deepest condolences to all of Wendy's friends and family.

On Motorhead news, the latest is that the Iron Maiden extravaganza scheduled for this summer and rumored to include Motorhead has fallen apart. The latest is that Motorhead might be on The Ozzfest and would likely headline the second stage. More news when I get it...

There has been some concern raised about attaching e-mail addresses to the post people make to the list. There have been incidents where people have attacked individuals based on public posts. So, if you do not wish to have your e-mail address listed on your post, simple add the line "NO E-MAIL ADDRESS" on the end of the letter. Thanks!

I have been working on the tribute album for the net. I hope to have something for you all real soon. In the meantime, I have uploaded the ROCKLINE episode with Lemmy in Real Audio for you all to enjoy. Until next time!

Salutations Ace,
This is Eric Massicotte here. Now that Snake Bite Love is here, what about changing the name of this issue. I recommand 'Snake bitten head bangs' as a new name. Let me know and maybe others should submit a new name as well. Ok, that's it. Continue your great work and keep on Rockin!

**Editor: My feeling is that Overnight Sensation should remain the name as a milestone marker of when we first all came together. But, this is not just my list, it is all of ours. What are your thoughts?

You asked about Lemmy apperaing in a TV show called Eat the Rich with the young ones. There are two things getting mixed here:
1./ Motorhead played on The Young Ones TV show in May of 1984, the episode was the university challenge one called 'Bambi' you can order the videos off the BBC, check out their website for details.
2./ Lemmy ( & cameo's from the rest of the boys) appeared in the film 'Eat The Rich'. This was released in 1988 (If my memory is still OK). It was produced by Iron Fist & Peter Richardson. It starrred a lot of the same people who appeared
in the Young Ones. (Hence the confusion) Sadly I have never been able to find a video of it to buy.
Anyone with a copy to sell please tell !!

It is called _Time of the Hawklords_, and is credited to Michael Butterowrth and Michael Moorcock. According to Moorcock, it was mostly Butterworth's book--Moorcock developed the idea, but Butterworth wrote it, I think--but the publishers insisted on putting Moorcock's name on it in order to move more copies.
A great piece of literature it is not ;)

There is a sequel called _Queens of Deleria_, which is credited solely to Butterworth. It is not as good (!) as the first book
A few years ago, Griffin Records in the US had reprinted these books and sold them along with HW CDs, for which they had a deal with the band to press and distribute in the States. Unfortunately for US Hawkfans, Griffin went down and though I think their catalog is being picked up by another company, I'm not sure what the deal is, and I don't know if the books are being reprinted.

Griffin also did the _Collector's Guide to Motorhead_ book, and the disc that went with it.

Ace, you were right. Snake bite Love (mmm... lowercase "b" on the album...") does get better and better as you listen to it. It's been in my stereo longer than any other cd (goin' on a month now), and I just keep finding more I like about it. Joy of Labour kicks so much ass that I can't find any way to finish this sentence. I get it stuck in my head for days at a time. And if any of you were wondering (I was for a while) Sirhan Sirhan shot Robert Kennedy (I'm gonna blow your brains out/Just like Sirhan Sirhan/You might not remember him/But believe me I sure can). Tee-hee, great album. Assassin is a slowed down Sacrifice with different lyrics. Snake Bite Love has the lines "Snake hips boy/Gonna lay you down/Gonna bite your ass". Lemmy=funny. Ah, hell, every song on there kicks my ass. And your, too. In other, less obsessed news, I was unfortunate enough to hear some of that Born to Raise Hell thing Lemmy did with Ice-T and some other nitwit. Two words: Lemmy rapping. It's one of the worst things I've ever heard. It's a full sonic attack. All you can do upon having your ear canals desecrated with this atrocity is scream "Aie!" and run away. I wish I could think of more words to describe it that weren't so vulgar you'd piss yourself, but I can't. Don't buy it. Don't listen to it. It's best not even to look at it. It's the worst song I've ever heard that has Lemmy in it, even worse than that techno Ace of Spades mix. Alls I can say is "Good God!"

And that little boy who nobody like grew up to be..... Roy Cohn. And now you know the rest of the story.

**Editor: I still say the techno AOS is worse!

Howdy Ace

I heard a radio announcement about IRON MAIDEN'S big summer package that included DIO, WASP and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, no mention of MOToRHEAD. What's the American tour status? They should jump onto the WARPED
TOUR. I've heard RANCID is headlining that and I know they're MOToRHEAD fans. That'd be a better tour, exposing them to wider audience that's still receptive to their style of music. OZZFEST still would have been the best though. The IRON MAIDEN bill is too genre specific, OZZFEST is too, but in a more accepted/accesible way and WARPED or LOLLAPALOOZA would be even more exciting, diverse and unexpected. Pigeonholing sucks, and the MAIDEN tour panders to that too much. Besides, I live just south of Somerset, Wisconsin where the OZZFEST and WARPED are going to converge for the only date on either tour (BIG SHOW!). So, to have MOToRHEAD there would be fucking awesome! But, ideally I'd prefer their own tour where I could catch them headline a club so I would get a full two hour + set. What ever happens please let them know they are wanted in the TWIN CITIES (ST. PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS), they seem to skip us up here a lot.

Is it just me or does it appear that blackie lawless is trying to reconcile with Motorhead, but is just blurting out various scapegoats in hope that we will forget his slanderous comments! Oh well, WASP sucks anyhow, so no big loss!
Personally I think the new record is somewhat weak, and assassins gets on my nerves. I wish it was the old motorhead! The line up now is the Man... but I'm referring to the good old days when they didn't use spell check on the lyrics and when they would forget entire paragraphs from the booklet, alas! S.B.L. is all right, just a little weak for the head!
I agree with Zughiaq@juno.com, motorhead deserves fame as they deserve money! Lots of it or enough for trousers!!!!!! If they put out the same music and get fame and cash for it then Bog bless 'em! same-old-fast-loud-heavy-destructive-ass-music Same-loud-fast-loud-heavy-destructive what? On another note: Fact- Ace is really cool! Fiction- Ace is not Bog {god}, so stop asking him to make Motorhead play a certain town or concert, or to pull strings so forth! Motorhead will do as motorhead wills.

I have tried to get a ticket for almost two weeks now and I still haven't got one. It's hard to get one if you live on the other side of the country (even though Holland isn't really big ...).

Subject: os: new motorhead songs

Just spent the last 10 days getting the latest Motorhead album tattooed on my brain, but being a biased Motorheadbanger, my album review is essentially useless ("10 stars!!!"), so here's an alternate idea:
If each of the new songs had appeared on a prior album, which album would it be?

Here's my opinions:
"Love for Sale"
most similar in style to _Overnight Sensation_ album, but could have showed up on _Bomber_ (with different guitars)

"Dogs of War"
definitely a _Sacrifice_ song

"Snake Bite Love"
it's got the swagger that the _Ace of Spades_ songs have

reminds me of Lemmy screaming "Claw" on _Orgasmatron_, but the music is more similar to _Sacrifice_

"Take the Blame"
right from the _Bastards_ album (minus the keyboards)

"Dead and Gone"
must be left over from the _1916_ album

"Night Side"
this one goes back to the _Rock 'N' Roll_ album

"Don't Lie to Me"
the music is similar to "Don't Waste Your Time" from _Sacrifice_ but the song is closer in spirit to the _March or Die_ album.

"Joy of Labour"
this song is the hardest to categorize, as it's really the most different thing that Motorhead has on this new album. If the guitars sounded different it might be _Another Perfect Day_ material, but it could fit on _March or Die_ possibly, too.

"Desperate for You"
if you gave this a really bad mix, it'd fit right on _Iron Fist_, but it also reminds me of the fun songs on _Orgasmatron_. Lemmy's multitracked vocals really don't match up too well on this one.

"Better Off Dead"
this one could be from _Bastards_, but also reminds me of the variety we had on _Overnight Sensation_.

So there you have it! The new album is "Motorhead's Greatest Hits!" Buy it or be shunned forever!

My taped copy of the recent Rock Line session with Lemmy is a bit muddy, but that Louie Louie song sounded different to me.
(Did Lemmy say something at the beginning of the song?)

I've only got two different versions:

1) a live one on "Lock up Your Daughters"
2) the one on "No Remorse" vinyl, "Anthology" CD

Note: I don't have the remastered "No Remorse" CD, but I did hear that it had a different "Louie Louie" on it. If so, where
is it from and is it the one that they played on Rock Line?

Hey Ace,

I just found out about Wendy O. Williams yesterday in my local newspaper. I was so bummed out. I only have one Plasmatics LP ("Coup D'Tat"), and have "Reform School Girls" on tape somewhere...but from what I've seen and heard about her, she was a cool person. Is there any word as to how Lemmy reacted to the news, since they were good friends? I was stunned that she took her own life, since she didn't seem like the kind of personality that would just give in like that.

Anyway, I also saw it posted on the KISS Asylum page, since her first solo LP, W.O.W., was recorded by Gene Simmons, and had appearances by Gene, Paul, and Eric Carr. Just thought maybe a mention about it on the Motorhead site would be nice thing to do.

Anyway, keep up the good work with the Overnight Sensation mag.

Just thought I'd let you all know that I have just returned home from a gig at a pub in North London, England where Psycho Squad were headlining. This is the band fronted by Todd Campbell, Phil's son. They played mainly their own songs with a couple of covers. It was a good set, much improved on the last time that I saw them play when they opened for Motorhead at the Newport gig last October. They are hoping to arrange to open the gigs for all of the UK dates in the Autumn but we'll have to wait and see. Phil joined them onstage for a cover of Metallica's Never Never Land (correct title?) which made the entrance money worthwhile all by itself!! And to see Phil as roadie!! A proud father, and rightly so. Phil also advised us that Motorhead have been included in the Ozzfest so you North American guys have that to look forward to!!

On a separate note I keep seeing mention of the fanclub in these mailings. Where can I get this.....? or What's such and such about...? The fan club is excellent. I know several of you are members but to those that aren't I can recommend it. You get what they say you will, including replies to questions, and I would urge you all to join. The address is as follows:

c/o/ Alan Burridge,
634 Blandford Road,
BH16 5EQ (This postcode or Zip is wrong on most album sleeves!!)

It costs ?7.50 UK, ?10 Europe or ?12 Rest of the World, and please enclose an IRC for a response. Go on, do it today!!
