Good Day!

Well, well. Things are really beginning to heat up in the world of Motorhead. First off, I have the first tour dates that the management has given me for Europe on the website. As far as tours go, the rumor now is that Motorhead will be joining Iron Maiden and a couple of other bands on a mini sort of Monsters Of Rock thing this summer in North America. Dates are being firmed up now... I personally would be thrilled if Motorhead was on this bill. They would get to play in front of a lot of people that haven't heard just how great they really are. More details as I get them.

When I awoke this saturday morning, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that I had received a fax from Mr. Kilmister over the course of the previous evening with a whole new batch of LEMMY SPEAKS questions. I will get them onto the website early this week.

The rockline that featured Lemmy was really cool. The entire 90 minutes was with our favorite bass player and lots of cool things took place. Some of the people that phoned in were Donita Sparks from L7, Tom Arnold and Ron Jeremy. Tom Arnold joined Lemmy for the last segment of the show. I know that a lot of you are not in a position to have heard the show. So, I have managed to make arrangements to post the show on the website in Real Audio for the world to hear. I should be able to do that this week.

As a point of interest, I managed to interview Blackie Lawless a couple of days ago. One of the subjects that came up was the Motorhead vs. WASP thing. Blackie said that he had always had the utmost respect for Lemmy and Motorhead and that he was the one that originally got them on the bill. He blamed all the misunderstandings on Lemmy's management. Blackie also indicated that WASP was likely to be added to the Iron Maiden tour this summer. So, Motorhead and WASP, touring together again... round two? I asked Blackie if touring with Motorhead would be a problem. He said that it would not because he and Lemmy were both adults and could put it behind them.

Until next time...

Check out http://www.cdnow.com they have a good selection of Motorhead CD & Imports.
The CD's you want to get for prior to 1916 are:

On Parole (actually the 1st album, but problems with label)
Ace of Spades
No Sleep Til Hammersmith
Iron Fist
Another Perfect Day
No Remorse
Rock 'N' Roll
No Sleep at All

Or you could save some money & buy the Protect the Innocent Box Set which has the best songs from each album up to March Or Die.
I've been almost unable to read most of the stuff 'cos it doesn't seem to fit on the computer anymore
I found on my computer(Win95) that the Word Wrap command under the Edit menu solves this problem, but that is if you're reciving a TXT attachment to your letter.
I'm searching the cd single of "Born to rise hell" that bring 3 or 4 versions including the one that Lemmy sing wit ICE-T And W.Crane (ex- U.K.JOE).
This version appears on the "Airheads" Soundtrack & is the only place I've found it.

<<"The Decline Of Western Civilization: The Metal Years"... it has been ages since I saw it and I don't remember the track listing.>>

Check Suncoast Video for the movie itself, it is a documentary about the heavy metal phenomenom in the late '80's. Lemmy has some good insights on the heavy metal business. As for the soundtrack it's out there I have a copy. The Motorhead song is "Cradle to the Grave."
The full track listing is;

"Under My Wheels" Alice Cooper w/ Axl Rose, Slash & Izzy
"The Bathroom Wall" live Faster Pussycat
"Cradle To The Grave" Motorhead
"You Can Run But You Can't Hide" Armored Saint
"Born To Be Wild" live Lizzy Borden
"In My Darkest Hour" Megadeth
"The Prophecy" Queensryche
"The Brave" Metal Church
"Foaming At The Mouth" Rigor Mortis
"Colleen" Seduce

Metallica has an import from England that has all of their Motorhead covers & one of their own. It has a mini-poster of Lemmy & "The Lemmys." is called Hero of the Day featuring the Whole Motorheadache Mess. The tracks are very raw, recorded directly to two-track during rehearsal for Lemmy's 50th birthday party
The track list is;

Hero of the Day (from the album Load)
Damage Case
Stone Dead Forever
Too Late Too Late

Hope this helps you guys.

**Editor: Also, many of you write me letters saying that it is difficult for you to find some of the Motorhead releases in your local record stores. Well, I have made arrangements with Music Blvd. to offer their entire catalog of Motorhead titles for sale. The best part (for me) is if you connect to their site via the link below, I get a bit of a commission. This commission will help offset the costs of doing Overnight Sensation itself. So, if you are going to order any Motorhead CDs on-line, go to this URL: http://www.musicblvd.com/cgi-bin/tw/13781_42_50057

Everyone go out and buy the new record. It is outstanding. A few general comments from a long-time Motorhead fan:
I was disappointed to see that Ace was not thanked in the credits. Does the band know all that you do? Certainly the folks with Singerman do. Anyways, you have my thanks, and I think from all the other MHBs out here.

I disagree with the assessment that it is somehow more "radio friendly". Though it lacks a "thrash-style" song such as Burner or Sacrifice, I don't believe any song conforms to current programming methodology. Perhaps Dead and Gone, but the content probably precludes that.

My favorites are Dead and Gone, Don't Lie to Me and Joy of Labour.
The most interesting: the percussion on Assassins, the organ on Take the Blame and the soul(?) on Joy of Labour.
This record clearly shows the musicianship of the band. They are unbelievable. Their creativity and refusal to rest on their laurals is remarkable. I can't say enough about it.
Anyways, thanks for the hard work Ace.

to the comment made by " katodog@webtv.net" :
If Motorhead happened to get alot of play on mtv and radio stations and become as well known as metallica I think it would be pretty cool! AS LONG AS they kept playing the same-old-fast-loud-heavy-destructive-ass-music they always have and keep attracting the same fans without changing a damn thing!

as far as problems reading OS goes, the only problem I have is random equal signs [=] at the beginning and end of lines which only seem to go halfway across the page I have to agree with those that want OS to say as is. If everyone started sending out their comments individually it would get confusing and boring. People would get messages they don't care about and then reply saying how much they don't care. There are topics being discussed now that I don't care about (i.e. hockey, comics) and I would be annoyed to read a huge message to find out that was all it talked about. When someone asks a question it is usually answered by more than one person and with the list set up this way you don't have to read through all five messages seperately. This is also less time consuming (except for you, Ace who has to spend time compiling this thing).

WHAT!! Motorhead is not at the OZZfest!!! Come on Ace you apparently know the guys or their management or something, why not try to influence them to change their mind, eh?

Hello Ace, Hi everybody, I just thought I would let you know about my Motorhead home page at http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Towers/1628. I don't really have much stuff on it, but I don't wanna copy things from other Motorhead pages on the web and upload em on mine. All I have is about ten rare (at least so I think) scanned Lemmy & co. pictures + the history of the band taken from the No Remorse Lp. I also want to mention that the music stores of the chain 'The Wall' suck, since in one of 'em all I was able to find by Motorhead was a copy of 'Snake Bite Love' on tape hidden among tens of old Motley Crue recordings. I ran into an old Fastway cd called 'Waiting for the Road' insted. Listening to the album I thought to myself - Poor 'Fast' Eddie Clark. What a great guitarist he once was. Well things change I guess. Last I ought to say the new Motorhead is as good as all of there albums, if not the best one so far. I hope it sells good all over the world and once more Lemmy and the band receive the appreciation they deserve. Sincerely, Simeon P.S. Ace: keep up the good work!

Daniel is right when he says that mac ascii is a little different from PC ascii. If I understand it correctly all of the numbers, letters and carriage returns are the same on macs, pcs and unix. That's why file formats like dxfs and postscript files can be swapt without a hitch. But macs also have an extended set of characters, such as accents, symbols and the nifty . Using a mac or pc has nothing to do with the word wrap. It sounds like a combined problem. Ace doesn't have the automatic word wrap turned on in Eudora and some e-mail programs used by some members on the list don't automatically wrap the text the way a word processor would.

>I'm using the University's pc,which don't have sound cards.
Daniel it's too bad you don't have a macintosh. Sound is built right in, no sound card is needed! :)

>**Editor: How about PDF? I could generate this list as a PDF and attach it... what do you think?
I like that idea. You could even include pictures!! On the down side the file size would increase and novice users could find installing Acrobat a challenge.

Subject: OS: PDF:s?

Pleez NO!
I hope you were joking there, Ace...

Just tell those who have problems to use a working program! Believe me, the market is soaked with lousy software. If you don't believe me, consider the fact that a PC running under a working OS doesn't crash more than twice per year, and that's if it's heavily used on a daily basis! If people knew what they *could* expect from their PC:s, nobody would recognize the name Bill Gates!

The contents of every OS issue is plain text (i.e. ordinary ASCII characters). Any decent mailhandler should present this in a readable manner, if Netscape and MSIE works, use them instead!

As for myself, I've no problems whatsoever reading OS issues with exmh (a nice interface to the mh package written in Tk/Tcl for UNIX-based platforms), and had no problems reading it using Hotmail/Netaddress (both free email services having the nice feature that all you need to use them is a web browser, ANY web browser on any machine with any prefs set...) with Netscape 3.01 (An old version, mind you!). (Ok, not ANY browser, but Netscape and MSIE works fine and you don't have to set them up in any particular manner to use Hotmail/Netaddress/Lycos email/Yahoo email... there are lots of 'em!)

The only possible source of truble, as I see it, is if people from my corner of the world (northern Europe) use those special characters that practically noone else uses, that is, 'a' with ring or dots above, or 'o' with dots (sound familiar?). That should however cause minor problems like "motorhead" written as we're used to see it prints as "motvrhead" or something equally unmistakable. It should definitely NOT cause problems printing the whole text...

Or what happens here: Motorhead (That is Motorhead written with the second 'o' having dots above, encoded as windows-1251, a nice standard, and decoded as your mailhandler thought appropriate:)

But, pleez, no PDF:s... sure, anyone can get Adobe Acrobat, and I've got it, too, but that's a very slow and annoying program...
One alternative could possibly be to put every issue on the web as html as well as sending it to everyone, that shouldn't cause more extra work than generating PDF:s? (Just an idea...)
Whatever you decide to do, just don't stop issuing OS, this is a necessity for any true believer ;) (And well done, too!)

Hello Motorheadbangers,

Last week I bought the album, it was pretty hard to get one quickly. All quality stores where I normally buy my stuff couldn't order it until several weeks after the official release ... I wonder why. In the end, I bought a copy at Free Record Shop (a Dutch shop found in a lot of cities, comparable to what McDonalds is for food: expensive and disgusting). I must say, it's good and I am really looking forward to seeying the guys in the near future, but it's not brilliant. Is Lemmy finally getting old?

What the hell, it's still a good album. Good news for all Dutch Motorheadbangers: Motorhead is coming to the Netherlands again! They will play at the Dauwpop festival in Hellendoorn. As for the date, the magazines mention different dates but I think the festival is May 21st and 22nd. The festival has an extra day, May 22nd, just for Motorhead (and maybe some supporting acts). Tickets will be available after March 23rd. Check it out! I'll be there and after it, I'll submit a post to keep all of you informed.

Greetings from Holland, Ice Thijs

Also check out Aprils Metal Hammer ... it has a feature on Lemmy at home!

Hola Ace,

After buying the newly remastered version of "Iron Fist" at the remarkable price of U$S 14, I read on a very trustful local newspaper that Motorhead is scheduled to play here in Argentina at the end of April. Is it true or just another piece of crap to keep the metal hordes quiet??? I read something that you were trying to set up some sort of Mo?head history archive. If that is the case, I have a 45?tape of their last gig here, that was aired on the Rock? And Pop local station. If you need it, just let me know. And to all those fellow MHB around the world, does anybody have any Motorhead?s artwork on digital format, such as .bmp or .wmf ????? I?d like to use it as a wallpaper for my computer.
If anybody?s interested in "Tromeo and Juliet", try the http://www.troma.com site.

Dear MHBs

Bought the new album (naturally), and think it's the best they've done since Bastards. It's up there with the greats - i.e. Overkill, Ace of Spades, Orgasmatron, 1916, and Bastards. I won't bother analysing it in great detail - there are plenty of you out there who can do it far more eloquently than moi. Suffice it to say that it's not been out of my car's cassette player since March 10th!

A note to Ace: about the dance version of Ace Of Spades. I think you referred to it as "surreal"? You're a kinder man than I. I refuse to buy All The Aces because that poxy thing is on it. The intense hatred of it comes from many a night about 4 years ago, when down at my local rock club I'd hear the immortal first bass riff, jump up and rush towards the dance floor, only to realise after 5 seconds that it was the dance mix. This was regularly followed by a cry of "BASTARD!!!" and a volley of insults and death threats directed towards the D.J. The worse thing is that it's twice the length of the original!
Besides, I can't fucking stand dance music.

Oh, Ace, by the way, I think I started a landslide by reporting my problems with OS. Sorry! I have tried all the suggestions (many thanks to all you helpful 'eadbangers), but to no avail. C'est la vie...

See ya,

Hi Ace,

You said in the last OS newsletter that you don't want to publish any tour dates on your webpage and mail-list until Motorhead's management have confirmed them, signed and sealed. But I can confirm that the UK dates that are on my web-page and what I emailed out on the last OS newsletter are genuine and not idle rumours. They are being advertised by promotors MCP in rock magazines like Kerrang.

Also, my ticket for the 17th October 1998 London Brixton Academy show arrived in the post this week! So the tour
dates are kosher.

I hope the promotors choose a better line-up of support acts this time round. A kick-ass band like Gemany-based Skew Siskin should be reinstated for this year's UK tour. They were originally billed as support group last year, Lemmy loved them, but the promotors unfortunately dumped them in the last minute because they felt the British-based Novocaine would be more appropiate - bad choice because I've heard Skew Siskin's music and they would've gone down a real scream with the audience. No wonder Lemmy was pissed off with the promotors for altering the line-up.

Anyway, hpe to see you London-based OS subscribers on the night! And it's time we start making use of the message-board on my website for anyone who wants to form a possie and meet up for drinks before the gig!

**Editor: I think pre-show meetings of OS members would be very cool. Why not post to this list if you would like to organize one for your city.

Does anyone have Lemmy On Rockline on tape? I was out of town and didn't even know about it. AARRGGHH!! Maybe we can work out a trade. Also, speaking of versions of "AOS" there's a bluegrass version by the Jever Mountain Boys that's outta this world! Yee haw! Hope to hear from some MHB's... Tim Shockley MHB672 (H)

HELL-o fellow Motorheadbangers!
Just read an article in a major swedish newspaper where the reporter stayed with Lemmy for three days in L.A. and there were some cool quotes in it. Among other things Lemmy said that the first time he met his son was in the middle of a cocaine-deal but he felt that he has a closer relation to him now. "We even swapped chics with each other on night"...As the Man put it. Try to get a copy of it if you can. Unfortunately I lost mine.

Another thing, please mail OS more often. Now when I get these huge letters, I can't read enerything that's in 'em and that sucks quite bad... Keep on supporting one of the heaviest combos ever!

Hello all you motorheadbangers out there!! Snake Bite Love finally came in Finland! It's really a great album, it's kind of a combination of Sacrifice and Overnight Sensation. When I went to my local musicstore to buy the album the clerk gave me 9 posters of Snake Bite Love. So if some of you wants it just let me know...

And this is specially for Nick (Spurs-fan) from Bradford. You asked about the Motorhead game and this is taken from the book The Illustrated Collector's Guide To Motorhead;

Virgin Music Various Computer Formats.A computer game in which you have to help Lemmy around the various levels to release the band members so that they can get to a gig. Lemmy's 'Life' ticks away as bullets on a bullet belt, you drink lager to get it back and grab groupies on the way."

Hope you find the game somewhere!!
Until then, Dead and Gone!
