First off, I have an exciting announcement for all Overnight Sensation members straight
from Motorhead:
"Motorhead is in the process of designing the artwork for their 20th Studio album,
tentatively entitled ASSASSINS. Here is your chance to be part of Motorhead history!
If you have any ideas for what would make a great cover, either e-mail it to ace@nextlevel.com with the subject line being
"MOTORHEAD COVER" or fax it to me at (250) 490-8148. For OS members
outside of North America, please note that the fax number is in Canada. If you are
sending attachments with your e-mails, please try to limit them to less than one MB.
All submissions become the property of Motorhead and if we use your idea, you will
be credited in the new album as well as getting some other goodies."
There ya go... your chance to make your mark in Motorhead history!
The tribute project is coming along nicely. For those of you new to the list, let me
recap...
We got into a discussion about the lack of tribute(s) out there in the world honoring our
favorite band of bangers, Motorhead! So, being the kind of do-it-yourselfers that we
are, we decided, what the hell, let's do it ourselves! The Overnight Sensation list
is filled with lots of talented musicians. And, it is not to late for your band to
participate. If you would like to contribute a track our Motorhead Tribute Project,
please e-mail me at ace@nextlevel.com with the
subject line reading OS TRIBUTE: I WANT IN!. I will e-mail you separately with
details on submissions.
I have gotten some fantastic ideas e-mailed for names for our project (see them in the
issue below) but there is time for lots more! Once the entries are all in, I will
put them up for a vote to the entire list. Who ever gets their submission chosen
will also receive a copy of the "I Don't Believe A Word" promo single.
This is not available for sale in stores. It contains both the album and the
edit versions of this track. So, if you have a name for the tribute project we are
assembling, send me your ideas for the name of this collection of tribute songs.
E-Mail me at ace@nextlevel.com and make the
subject line OS TRIBUTE: I'VE GOT THE NAME!. Send as many as you can think of.
Also remeber that Lemmy's Birthday is on the 24th!

Ahoy there mateys!
I see that my big brother and fellow sheepshagger has ruffled a few feathers with his
reply to the inept concert reviewer who was so offended by Mikkey Dee's horrible drumming
ability. GOOD JOB VAUGHAN! (not to be confused with the infamous James Vaughan)
I can't believe that there are people with such thin skin out there that can muster
up the courage to criticize someone and then cry a puddle of tears when someone fires back
at them. And then he has the stupidity to flatter himself by thinking that his
threat of unsubscribing is going to upset all of us. Boo hoo hoo. I like the
comment by a reader in the last OS that said he's a big boy and can take it. Why
doesn't everybody act like a big boy?
With that off my chest I have some information for all of my fellow Motorhead archivists out there who are interested in
movie appearances. The movie Gross Point Blank (a new video release with John Cusack and his sister) has a scene
where a kid is playing a video game at a quikky mart with the Ace of Spades playing. I don't know if it's supposed
to be part of the game or just backround music, but it's there nonetheless. It plays up to the point where the whole
place blows up. It is not the regular studio version. I think that they probably got it from a live album (Live
at Brixton, possibly). Maybe it was even a rerecording for the movie, but I doubt it. It a very peculiar version
and sometimes even sounds like it might be a couple of Motorhead tunes thrown together. It was the high point in an
otherwise brutal flick, a mon avis. Check it out!
Cheers and Tally ho!
Jim. . . . . .no,no,no let me hide behind a moniker - Prince Charles.
Yeah, that's it.
**Editor: I caught this as well. The convience store attendent was playing a
video machine with his stereo headphones on blasting Ace Of Spades. I asked Lemmy
about it and he didn't know anything about it.

Yes it was. Mick Farren still records, BTW. And, of
course, he wrote the liner notes for the EMI remaster of _On Parole_ in '96.

Not me! It was a Moorcock one, though--presumably one of
the Elrics, but I may well bbe wrong. I remember dedication to Lemmy and other
rockers who hit the second-hand book shops ...
Cheers,

Hi folks,
On the subject of 'profanity'.
Ofcourse everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, and freedom of speech is a very important thing. However,
freedom OF speech is also freedom FROM speech, if you want to say 'copulate' but only want to use four letters, you might
encounter people who say 'hold it' and don't let you say it in their publication. This is their right, if you want it said,
make your OWN mag, list, radio show, etc.
As for a name for the tribute;
How about 'All the aces' ??

Hello again Ace.
I'm sorry to trouble you again but I feel it is necessary to do so.
I would like to very much appologise once again for my E-mail a while back. I have obviously rubbed a few subscribers
up the wrong way. I had no intentions of doing so and I would hope that those people who thought of me as being out
of order would accept my appology. I am extremely sorry that I have caused offence to your subscribers.
Please keep up the good work and the faith.
All the very best to you and those that I've offended.
Yours sincerely
Vaughan James.

Dear Ace,
Every time I read this newsletter, I am reminded of the vast contributions of the British
to heavy metal. Their greatest contribution, of course, is our favorite band,
Motorhead. Next is Black Sabbath with Ozzy. America, on the other hand, is so
lame that these bands do not achieve the success they deserve here. But I am really
tortured by the way the British, who have produced so much that is cool, are so fond of
the most rotten American music. They must be the only people on earth who still care about
Michael Jackson. Can anyone clear up this mystery?
Concerning another great British band, does anyone in the Pittsburgh area have any
Witchfinder General CDs, tapes or LPs he might be willing to give up? I am
especially interested in "Friends of Hell" on CD and the "Soviet
Invasion" EP.
Oh, yeah--I'm just kidding about the British.

As I saw in the last O.S., Evil Clam met the guys from MOTORHEAD and he said they were
cool people. Well, I had the same experience here in Sao Paulo, but with Rob Halford. I
was invited to go with FIGHT to their hotel room, and the master voice (HALFORD) was
incredibly cool with me, treating me as an equal. Some people doesn't need to be a rock
star or something like that to be good in their jobs (FUCK yngwie malmsteen!!). Rob
Halford Rules !!!

Although there is some hope for the younger generation {mine}, there is not much. I'm 14 and have been a Motorhead
fan for about 3 years, but I always get a "Who?" when I mention Motorhead to my peers. Unfortunately my generation
was breast-fed to the likes of Spice Girls, New Kids, Bush, and so forth. The radio spews out Green Day and New Metallica
{ugh!}, wasting valuable air waves.
Well, enough about my forlorn generation. My first concert, was about a year ago in
Providence, and it was Motorhead/Dio both kicked ass! However I am somewhat
disappointed with the set, so many of the newer songs were left out, for instance Liar,
Lost in your Ozone, Bad Religion, March or die, Out of the sun, Make 'em blind, and some
of the old stuff {'cause they're not considered "classics"} Shoot you in the
back, Black heart, Sweet Revenge, etc. I know I'll probably be the target of
excessive amounts of hate for this, but compared to most Motorhead, the song Ace of Spades
isn't ALL that great!
The not so mad Umlauter
**Editor: I had the good fortune to meet one of the Spice Girls when I was in Las
Vegas for the Billboard Music awards... you may not like their music, but you gotta like
their looks! :-)
